Issue #62

Hello,

First of all I want to wish you a very late Happy New Year 2010 !

If you have made any goals to lose weight or get into better shape, I'd love to hear from you: http://www.fabweightlosstips.com/weight-loss-goals.html

Even though strawberries are not really abundant in Germany during this time of the year, you can get them sometimes in the supermarket. And I found a new recipe, you should try: Strawberries in chili syrup! Yummy!

Strawberries in chili syrup

Strange, but yummy! The hot chilli gives a nice touch to the sweet strawberries. Definitely not your everyday dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups (500g) fresh strawberries
  • 1/3 cup (80g) sugar
  • 2 limes
  • 1 small green chilli
  • 1 vanilla bean

Directions

Cut the vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the pulp. Wash chili, remove the seeds, and chop. Wash limes with hot water, rub off peel (for later use), and press out the juice.

Pour 100ml (1/3 cup) of water, sugar, lime juice, lime peel, vanilla bean, vanilla pulp, and chili into a pot and bring to a boil.

Boil for about 5 minutes, remove from stove and let cool.

Meanwhile wash and dry strawberries and cut into quarters. Pour cool sirup over the strawberries and put into fridge for 1-2 hours.

Enjoy!

Makes 4 servings.

Kitchen Tip

If a recipe like the strawberries with chilli syrup asks for lemon juice and/or peel, what can you do with the rest of the lemon?

Simply drop the unused portions of lemon into a zip lock bag, write on the date, and place it in the freezer.

Lemon should store in the freezer for no more than 6 months
